Produmax Support National Productivity

Over the last twelve months, senior business leaders, led by Sir Charlie Mayfield, Chair of the John Lewis Partnership, have come together to form the Productivity Leadership Group. Backed by government, the group aims to galvanise businesses into working together to raise UK business productivity.

Sharing in Growth CEO Andy Page is a member of the group’s Manufacturing Business Leadership workstream alongside top management from GlaxoSmithKline, Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce, Siemens, and Toyota.

At July’s CBI Conference, the group  launched a report that describes how productivity has stagnated in the UK compared with other countries. It looks at the impact of low productivity and, through case studies, gives pointers to how it can be improved. There is also a dashboard tool that allows you to assess your current performance in leadership, talent management, planning, commercial excellence, operational efficiency, and to compare productivity improvements with peers.

The Manufacturing Business Leadership work stream, led by Professor Jüergen Maier (Siemens), has developed a framework to help manufacturers to identify how to improve productivity in three key areas: leadership and ambition; innovation and technological step change; and skills, culture and employee engagement.

This framework is supported by a report which includes vibrant best practice examples from world–leading companies to bring the concepts to life. Among them is a Produmax case study put forward by Sharing in Growth.  The group has also set out a series of recommendations to government and industry on how to fulfil the UK’s manufacturing potential.
